Today, Samsung took the covers off the latest mobile device in the flagship Galaxy S series: the Samsung Galaxy S20 FE (‘FE’ stands for ‘Fan Edition’). As the headline indicates, this phone provides the essential features Samsung considers a must-have for fans of Galaxy S.
Below, you’ll find what I know about the Samsung Galaxy S20 Fan Version. Samsung also leaves out some premium features from the Galaxy S20 series, resulting in lower prices.
What is a “FAN EDITION” S20?
It provides features that Samsung thinks its customers want the most while leaving out the others that customers either don’t care about or would happily do without, all this at a lower cost.
You can expect that the S20 FAN EDITION will have all the best features or the S20 line. It has the latest generation in processors, expandable storage, it’s water and dust resistant, big display, offers wireless charging, it can charge other devices with its power share, and a famous triple-lens rear camera.
The Samsung Galaxy S20 FE offers a range of colours, many of which are new to the Galaxy S family.
With this latest smartphone, Samsung is pursuing Millennials, so the core features are what the demographic wants. That means the camera, the life of the battery and the emphasis on gaming.
What is Under the Hood?
The 120Hz refresh rate display, which gives you a fluid experience, can be turned on at any time as your phone hits a max 1080p resolution. There is a 240Hz touch response rate that automatically switches on during gameplay.
At 4,500mAh, the battery received an increase in capacity in the Samsung Galaxy S20 FE. You’ll find wireless charging as well as reverse charging. The default power adapter only delivers 15W of charge power. You can buy a 25W charger separately, which will charge it much faster.
The main camera shooter is a wide-angle 12MP optical image stabilization (OIS) lens. There’s also an ultra-wide 12MP and an 8MP telephoto lens. This last one offers a 3x optical zoom with a 30x digital “Space Zoom” lens.
There’s now a single take functionality in the Samsung Galaxy S20 FE that captures up to 10 images of a 15-second film. And then, there’s a feature called My Filter that lets you extract a colour filter from one of your images. There’s a Night Hyperlapse mode that lets you take some fun cityscape shots.
