Google is going to be releasing the Pixel 4 in October as they usually do, but why wait? You can get yourself a gently used Pixel 2 or Pixel 2 XL for almost nothing. A Google Pixel 2 XL in 2019 why? Used, refurbished, decent and cheaper.
If you’d rather check out the accessories I’m considering, you can skip to the end, I’ll include the Amazon links.
One of the main reason would be for the camera that the Pixel line of devices offers. Getting a Pixel 2 XL is going to be very affordable. You know that Google supports the device until the end of 2020. Since this is a Pixel device, it’s fluid and fast.
Here’s a list of additional reason why you would want to get the Pixel 2 or the 2 XL; You get monthly security patches, next-gen operating system, tailored android experience, better battery management etc.
You can opt for a Pixel 3 as it offers the same in terms of features and experience. The price difference is quite considerable. You could go for a Pixel 3a which would be equally appealing. Ultimately my decision boiled down to price, features and specs.
You can also check with carriers like Virgin Mobile or Verizon to see if they list some refurbished Google Pixel 2. An alternative is to check the used listing such as Facebook Marketplace, Kijiji, Best Buy and the list goes on.
You can find all the specs and details on sites like GSMARENA when it comes to smartphones.
A friend on Facebook Marketplace was listing the Pixel 2 XL in good condition. Before I got into any agreement, she was forthcoming with what to expect. I expected some wear and tear as most would when buying used. Taking a good look at it; We can see that the back is pristine. The screen does show some nick and scratches. There is nothing wrong with it on any angle. When it came to the price, I was quite pleased for $300.
It’s running the latest out of Google, Android Pie (Android 9) with June 2019 patch level. It’s eligible for the Android Q beta, which I can easily install. I’m holding off on the beta of Android Q as there are some issues.
I can expect to get full support up to October 2020. All that for $300? Sign me up.
I’m going to be hitting Amazon Canada real hard to find the accessories I think I will need. I looked into a battery case for the Pixel 2 XL that would be useful on long trips. I’m actively looking for a very sleek smartphone case to feature the Pixel 2 XL.
One element I do not have is a multi-port wall plug that supports charging rapidly. Looking on Amazon, I may have found a wall plug that offers USB-C and USB-A. Both ports deliver the needed rapid charging to any devices.
